Liability for content and links
As a service provider we are responsible for our own content on these pages under general law. We are not obliged to monitor transmitted or stored third-party information or to look for circumstances that indicate illegal activity. Obligations to remove or block information under general law remain unaffected; liability is possible only from the time we know of a specific infringement. We remove such content as soon as we know of it.
Our pages link to external websites we have no influence over, and we accept no liability for their content. The linked pages were checked when the link was set and no illegal content was recognisable then. We remove a link as soon as we know of a violation.

Population and jobs from the national census; Berlin: Zensus 2022, Statistische Ämter des Bundes und der Länder, dl-de/by-2-0. Timetables from the operators' public GTFS feeds. Imagery © Esri. The demand in each city, where its people want to go by hour and by purpose, is Takt's own work, computed from these sources. It is licensed for play on playtakt.app and for nothing else; copying, mirroring or reusing the demand files is not permitted. The files derived from OpenStreetMap stay under the ODbL and are available on request. The same terms are in /data/LICENSE.

Privacy notice
Takt runs in your browser. There is no account, there is no sign-in, and there are no cookies. This page says what does leave your machine, and why.
Who is responsible

What stays on your machine
The game keeps your network, your settings and your saved games in your browser's local storage. Nothing of it is sent to us. It stays until you clear the site's data in your browser. One thing leaves your machine, by your own click: a share you make with "Share this city" is stored on our server under a short link, with its card. A shared network holds lines, stations and the game's figures, and nothing about you.
Server logs
Our server in Germany records every request: the IP address, the time, the address requested, the browser identification string and the referring page. We use these logs to run and secure the site and the game. They are kept for 30 days and then deleted. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running the service, Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR.
Analytics
The page and the game use Clickport, an analytics product we run ourselves. It sets no cookies, stores no identifier in your browser, and keeps no personal data: the IP address is used to determine the country and then discarded, and visitors are grouped for a day by a hash that cannot be reversed. It records page views, time on page, and in the game a few anonymous events such as the first line built, so we can see whether the game is understood. It also records uncaught errors, as a file and a line number. No consent banner is required for this. Details: clickport.io/privacy.
Game diagnostics
The game reports loading and calculation times, errors, failed local saves, and game-file opening outcomes. Reports include the city, game build, city pack, browser family, line and station counts, and whether the tab stays visible. Detailed times can include storage opening, known downloads, calculations, and applying results to the page. Save and file errors use fixed reason codes. Reports do not include your network, save names, file names, file contents, page address, full browser identification string, or a player identifier. We keep up to 10,000 measurements for seven days.
Unexpected errors after loading can include up to five code locations and the last eight approved action types, such as selecting a line or changing frequency. These reports contain no input text, coordinates, line names, or full error messages. We keep up to 250 runtime-error groups and 100 loading-error groups for seven days. Runtime groups contain occurrence counts and up to three recent examples. The server uses IP addresses temporarily to limit reports. It does not store them in these records.
The game also counts refused station placements and Finish year commands by reason. A blocking message shown in the year plan has a separate count. These reports contain no station positions or network contents. We combine them into hourly totals by city, build, and game site. We keep up to 10,000 totals for seven days. We use these reports to find game problems and improve development.
The game also reports Sandbox mode, the selected map theme and layer switches with the time the game tab stays visible. We combine these into hourly totals by city, site and theme, including Sandbox mode's and each layer's on and off time. We keep hourly preference totals for 90 days. These totals contain no player identifier or saved network. Default settings and visible idle tabs count; hidden tabs do not. We use these totals to understand which game and display settings people use.
Third parties your browser talks to
The map is drawn from tiles and images that your browser fetches directly from their providers. Each provider receives your IP address and the tile requested, which is what a request is. We have no influence on their processing.
- Map tiles from OpenFreeMap for every look of the ground.
- Satellite imagery from Esri (ArcGIS Online), only when you pick the satellite look.
- The city's own aerial imagery from the city's geoportal – Berlin's FIS-Broker, the Dutch PDOK, the Polish GUGiK – only when you pick that look.
- Photographs of places from Wikimedia Commons, only when you open a place.
Fonts, the city data and the game itself are served from our own server. Nothing loads from Google.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct or erase personal data about you, to restrict or object to its processing, and to data portability, within the limits of the GDPR. Because the site holds no personal data beyond the server logs, the practical answer to most requests is that there is nothing to hand over. You can lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority; for us that is the Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz Niedersachsen.
